Ayuntamiento de Sitges, as the entity responsible for the tourism and territorial management of Sitges, holds the Biosphere certificate, issued by Biosphere Responsible Tourism (BRT). This certificate recognises that, in accordance with the methodology the Biosphere Scheme applies specifically to the destination typology, the entity has completed an assessment process based on documented evidence verified by BRT, a certification body independent of the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR), the owner of the scheme.
This process is not limited to a one-off review: the certification is subject to periodic monitoring that checks, over time, that the documentation submitted continues to meet the scheme's criteria. Accordingly, maintaining the certificate requires the entity to continue demonstrating, on an ongoing basis, compliance with what has been assessed, rather than simply proving it at a single point in time.
